You. Rock.

I've been fighting the FISA expansion through word of mouth efforts, but you make an interesting point about communities and knowing your neighbors.

Interesting. Does that mean you'd like to be able to hear your elected representatives' phone conversations, and if so, work-related only or personal as well?

Also, do you feel the same way about private corporations that harvest your information? I would definitely feel a lot better about corporations hanging onto my data if I had similar access to data about their activities. It's very hard to find out what companies are up to and how they actually operate, especially international firms. This makes it difficult for consumers to spend their money on companies that match their values. Perhaps as you suggest, the solution is mutual transparency.

I would be completely happy with the government harvesting any information they can about me, provided I can access the same set of information about my elected representatives. I mean, I'd like to see it for every government employee (local police officers, judges), but it seems only fair to be able to see it for everyone who sees my information (NSA employees, etc.)
